Paying around 100 pounds (for a family of two adults and their children or grandchildren under 18) you will became a member for a year. It gives you the right to visit with no additional payment all the NT properties during that year. Depending on the places two or three visits will amortise your investment.
We have visited some of them. The last one, a well-kept farm not far from home called Woolsthorpe Manor, the birthplace and family home of Sir Isaac Newton where during the pest plague year and Cambrigde University closed, he came back home and spent time making the first reflecting telescope and split light into rainbow colours. Interesting place specially for little scientists which can get involved and try on several experiments and discoveries at the Sciences Centre in another building next to the family house. The inspiring apple tree is placed in the garden, that one which the genius saw the apple falling down from while he thought over the planets movement.
It also exist the English Heritage. A different association which brings together other historic places (over 400) and it has similar features.
Will anyone interested in improving his knowledge about the country resist to such a tempting opportunity? It's not my case indeed.
Hay una fundación llamada Consorcio Nacional encargada de cuidar del patrimonio de Gran Bretaña incluyendo casas, jardines, molinos, litoral, reservas naturales y más. Fue fundada a finales de 1800 y ahora una enorme cantidad de voluntarios (más de 1500) trabajan para él desempeñando muy distintas tareas tales como trabajar de guía de salas, atender las taquillas, liderar todo tipo de actividades, ayudar en trabajos de jardinería...
Pagando alrededor de 100 libras (para una familia de dos adultos y sus hijos o nietos menores de 18 años) podrás ser miembro durante un año. Ello te da derecho sin coste adicional a visitar todas sus propiedades ese año. Dependiendo de los sitios dos o tres visitas amortizarán tu inversión.
Nosotros hemos visitado algunas de ellas. La última una granja bien conservada no muy lejos de casa llamada Woolsthorpe Manor, lugar de nacimiento y casa familiar de Sir Isaac Newton donde volvió y pasó tiempo fabricando el primer telescopio reflectante y separó la luz blanca en los colores del arco iris mientras estaba cerrada la universidad de Cambridge por la plaga de peste. Lugar interesante sobre todo para los pequeños científicos que pueden involucrarse e intentar diversos experimentos y descubrimientos en el Centro Científico en un edificio anexo a la casa. El inspirador manzano se encuentra en el jardín, aquel del que el genio vio caer la manzana mientras cavilaba sobre el movimiento de los planetas.
Existe también el "Herencia Inglesa", una asociación diferente que agrupa otros lugares históricos (más de 400) de similares características al "Consorcio Nacional".
Alguien interesado en mejorar su conocimiento del país resistirá tan tentadora oportunidad? Desde luego no es mi caso.
