English: We have learned to spell words such as buried, mummification, tomb, wrap, Pharaoh, hieroglyphic, slave.... We have started to write and structured properly an informative text. Geography: we have learned where Egypt is placed, the Nile river and its main tributaries, the floods and how the surrounded loamy and sandy soil was perfect to make grow the crops.
Maths: we have learned how to devise a secret language, a kind of hieroglyphic, and even more important, how to decode it.
History: we have learned who was the Pharaoh, how somebody became to be it, his duties and responsibilities, his burial architecture, etc
One of the amusing activities have been to wrap us up like authentic mummies helped by toilet paper. As supportive parents we went to London (originally for other reason) and walked up to the British Museum where we spent a couple of hours at the Ancient Egypt rooms so that we see straight all the wonders we have been taught.
Furthermore, today have been a dancing competition at the Arts Centre in town. Five schools have sent some children from different Key Stage 2 levels. Year 3, my son's class, was our school representative. Do you know what was the eighty hit have they chosen to dance? Yes, you guessed it, the Bangles' 'Walk like an Egyptian' (Ooooohhhh ehhhh ohhhhh). And it's been a hard work for me. Because we' ve been trainning at home too, as supportive parents again -just mummy trainned with the boy, actually- but never mind. It's sad to admit it but I just couldn't keep up with him: "this time do it on your own, honey, mum is exhausted".
Después de Navidad el antiguo Egipto ha sido el tema de historia en el colegio y eso significa que todo absolutamente todo lo que han estudiado los niños durante las últimas semanas y continúan estudiando está relacionado con Egipto.
Lengua: hemos aprendido a deletrear palabras como: enterrado, momificación, tumba, envolver, faraón, jeroglífico, esclavo... Hemos empezado a escribir y estructurar adecuadamente textos informativos.
Geografía: hemos aprendido dónde está situado Egipto, el río Nilo y sus principales afluentes, las inundaciones y cómo las fértiles y arenosas tierras de alrededor eran perfectas para los cultivos.
Matemáticas: hemos aprendido cómo idear un lenguaje secreto, a modo de jeroglífico, y más importante aún, cómo descifrarlo.
Historia: hemos aprendido quién era el faraón, cómo alguien llegaba a serlo, sus deberes y responsabilidades, su arquitectura funeraria, etc.
Una de las actividades divertidas ha sido envolvernos como auténticas momias ayudados de rollos de papel higiénico. Como padres alentadores fuimos a Londres (en principio por otro motivo) y nos acercamos al museo británico donde pasamos un par de horas en las salas del antiguo Egipto para que viéramos directamente todas las maravillas que nos habían enseñado.
Además, hoy ha habido un concurso de baile en el Arts Centre, en el centro. Cinco colegios han enviado grupos de niños de diferentes cursos de primaria. La clase de tercero, la de mi hijo, era la representante de nuestro cole. Sabéis cuál ha sido el éxito ochentero que han elegido para bailar?? Sí, lo habéis adivinado, el "Walk like an Egyptian" de las Bangles (ooohhhhh ehhhh ohhhh). Y ha sido duro para mí. Porque hemos estado ensayando en casa también, como padres alentadores otra vez - en realidad sólo mami ensayó con el niño-, pero da igual. Es triste admitirlo pero la verdad es que no podía seguir su ritmo: " ésta vez hazlo tú solito, cariño, mamá está agotada".
