Lesson 27. Bright Christmas

All Stamford's houses have dressed up for Christmas, and they're beautiful. Sparkling lights faking Santa's grotto on their front doors, lit tea candles behind the windows, big real Christmas trees decorated with baubbles, stars and delicated small angels in the living-rooms....and whether you walk along the streets as you drive in your way to home you can enjoy the view because there's no curtains. There is a big tree full of lights in the main square of the town. In All the Saints' church there's a Christmas trees exhibition. These previous days before 25th of December the schools have plenty of activities, the Christmas play with its lovely version of "Wriggly Nativity", the Christmas fair with its ruffle, lots of games, and coffee room to collect money for charity. Shops windows try to be attractive for the customers and they get it. It's difficult to avoid not buying anything. People are looking forward to snowing to have a white Christmas......and in the meanwhile this evening we joined in a short pre-Christmas festival of carols near our home, followed by mince pies and mulled wine (an spiced hot wine). Obviously we didn't  know the songs, but a lady gave us a leaflet with the lyrics and we sang the best that we could do it. At 6 p.m. the temperature was 0 degrees Celsius, but the sky was so clear, full of shinny stars, and the carols were so gorgeous that we didn't care and we forgot that freezing cold. I love this atmosphere so magic. I love Christmas time.Try to enjoy. It's up to you most of times. Happy Christmas.



Todas las casas de Stamford se han vestido de gala para Navidad, y están preciosas. Luces centelleantes imitando la casa de Santa Claus en sus puertas de entrada. Pequeñas velas encendidas tras las ventanas, grandes arboles de Navidad naturales decorados con bolas, estrellas y delicados angelitos en los salones... Y tanto si caminas por las calles como si vas conduciendo a casa puedes disfrutar de la vista porque no hay cortinas. Hay un gran arbol lleno de luces en la plaza principal de la ciudad. En la iglesia de Todos los Santos hay una muestra de arboles de Navidad.. Estos dias
previos al 25 de diciembre los colegios están a tope de actividades, la funcion de Navidad con su encantadora version de la "Wriggly Nativity", la feria de Navidad con su rifa, montones de juegos y café para recavar dinero a beneficio de ONGs. Los escaparates de las tiendas tartan de ser atractivos para sus clientes y lo consiguen. Es dificil evitar no comprar nada. La gente está deseando que nieve para tener una Navidad blanca.... Y mientras tanto esta tarde nos unimos a un pequeño festival prenavideño de villancicos cerca de casa, seguido de pastelillos y vino "mulled" (un vino especiado que se sirve caliente). Obviamente no conocíamos las canciones pero una señora nos dió un panfleto con las letras y cantamos lo mejor que pudimos. A las 6 de la tarde la temperatura era de 0 grados, pero el cielo estaba tan despejado, lleno de estrellas brillantes y los villancicos eran tan bonitos que no nos ha importado y hemos olvidado el frío congelante. Me encanta esta atmósfera tan mágica. Me encanta la Navidad. Tratad de disfrutar. La mayoría de las veces tú eliges. Feliz Navidad.
